Reports of my fiery death slightly exaggerated

Thanks for emailing about the plane crash near Kampot, but thankfully, I was not involved in it. I’m too cheap to fly between Sihanoukville and Siem Reap.

I made it to Kampot safely and my only risk now is a fatal crab-and-pepper overdose.

  1. So, if it’s not being too inquisitive, how *did* you get to Kampot (and how long, how much, and what was the road like)? Bus, share taxi?

Are you going to Kep, too? Bokor?

I just checked Google Earth and it looks like there’s a band of high-resolution imagery covering the Bokor area now. Kampot, Kep, and Snookyville are still low-res.

  2. The road down to Kampot and Kep is in great condition at the moment – only a short stretch of dirt between the Kep turn-off and Kep. In the past, I headed to Kampot/Kep by taxi (and once, on my Vespa), but the Phnom Penh Sorya bus company (the one that leaves from opposite the gas station near Psar Thmei) now has buses at 7:30am and 12ish for $4 to Kampot via Kep. You can also use the same bus to transfer between towns for $2 each way.

There is also another smaller bus company that does that does that route, but I didn’t catch the name of it.

I didn’t get to Bokor this time, but I assume the road up there is as bad as ever.
