New York, huh? Sounds like an interesting idea.

Perhaps you could check out this site: http://www.mediabistro.com/joblistings/

As someone who has never met you, I can nevertheless imagine you'd be a good fit in the big apple. Of course, I have nothing invested in this, but NYC may be the only city in this "great" nation that embraces its cheeky foreigners.

PS: You'd be more than welcome to use our fire escape to sun dry your prahok.

hmmm, i have a lot to say on the Kirby quote. But I should probably leave it to another time, where there is plenty of time and cold beers. Suffice to say here, that some critics have claimed that international development agencies and experts have a tendency to treat 'the rule of law' as some sort of magic charm that if established will solve many of the conunudrums of building a modern functioning state in Cambodia. I think the discourse can also often contain inherent judgements on the 'corruptibility' of the 'natives'. Kirby at least points out that it is primarily a problem of poverty, which most would agree does not stem from any internal characteristics of the Khmer people. Unfortunately, I find that the whole good governance meme has a tendency to smother any alternative analysis aside from that of dissecting the Khmer people and their culture.

[...] When Phil at Phnomenon opted into the “interview me” meme I sent him some questions. On Wednesday I met Phil at Bar Lourinha (37 Little Collins St) for lunch and probably should have whipped out my MP3 recorder and interviewed there and then. We talked about all sorts of stuff, the problems facing Cambodia, the food there and the emergence of the new Khymer cuisine and how blogging has led both of us to find ourselves writing about food for the dead tree media, his first big story being for The Wall Street Journal. You can see his responses here. [...]
